Which padel shot tracker should you choose?

Racket sensors, courtside phone apps, or nothing but the watch on your wrist. What each type hands back after a session — and how to match one to how you play.

Padel shot trackers come in three form factors: racket-mounted sensors, phone or watch apps, and wrist-based trackers. The right pick comes down to three questions — will you add hardware to your racket, will you carry a phone near the court, and do you mostly play alone or with a regular partner?

The short answer

If you don’t want anything added to your racket and don’t want a phone near the court, a wrist-based tracker is the closest match. Racket-mounted sensors

These read the racket’s own motion, which is what lets them log forehands, backhands, volleys, and smashes shot by shot. The sensor lives on the handle, so switching rackets mid-season — or lending one to a partner — means moving the hardware too. This suits players who want the closest link between racket contact and the reported data, and who accept the setup ritual that comes with it.

Phone and watch apps

App-based trackers run on a smartwatch, a phone camera, or both, leaning on hardware you already own rather than a dedicated sensor. What you get varies widely: some focus on live scoring and match history, others add stroke detection or coaching summaries. The catch is device dependency. Many watch apps are built around one watch brand, and camera apps need a phone positioned to see the court. Compatibility differs enough between apps that checking current device requirements matters more here than with the other two categories.

What is vendor-stated, and what to check before buying

Manufacturers across all three categories report their own shot-classification accuracy and battery-life figures. None of this is independently verified in public documentation today. Treat quoted accuracy percentages and multi-session battery claims as vendor statements until a third party tests them.
