Ask the bench.
The questions everyone asks in week one.
The watch didn't count one of my serves. Why?
A very short serve can fall below the swing detector's threshold. We would rather leave a gap than invent a stroke. Padel users with qualified classification can review and correct supported labels; tennis remains count-only while its classifier calibrates.
It called my padel bandeja the wrong shot. Can I fix it?
Yes. In a padel session, open Review strokes, choose the supported label or “Not a shot,” and the session updates immediately. If correction sharing is enabled, the anonymous correction is tagged as padel. Tennis never offers bandeja.
Can I correct the score mid-match without taking the phone out?
That is the point of the Watch app. Scoring runs entirely on your wrist — big split-screen taps for us and them, and a mistapped point can be taken back. Your phone can stay in the bag for the whole match.
Which wrist should I wear the watch on?
Your racket wrist—the same side as the hand holding the racket. Wearing it elsewhere can reduce stroke-count reliability and, where classification is supported, type accuracy.
What does “unclassified” mean in my shot count?
For a sport with qualified classification, it means the detector saw a swing but the classifier was not confident enough to name it. Tennis sessions currently use accepted stroke counts without presenting guessed classes.
What works for tennis?
Tennis supports singles and doubles scoring, deuce and advantage, best-of-one or best-of-three sets, accepted stroke counts, results, health context and activity trends. Classified tennis stroke mix and Coach remain hidden while the separately collected tennis model calibrates.
Before the first match.
Which Apple Watch models are supported?
PlayDNA runs standalone on Apple Watch, watchOS 10 or later — in practice Series 6 and newer. You pick your Watch model and wrist during onboarding, and the app tells you if anything about your setup degrades accuracy.
Do I need to carry the phone on court?
No. The Watch tracks and scores the whole match on its own. The iPhone is for afterwards — Match Profile, Coach and Trends read the session when you are off court.
How much battery does a 90-minute match use?
PlayDNA samples motion only while a session is running, and a 90-minute match is designed to stay well inside a normal Watch day. For a long tournament day, a top-up between matches keeps you comfortable.
After the last point.
Why does Coach give me one focus instead of a list?
Because a list is not a focus. The coach finds the weakest area that has enough well-sampled data — overheads, net play, backhand, serve or consistency — and commits to it. If nothing is well sampled, it refuses to guess and asks you to record a fuller match.
What is the “norm band” in Trends?
Your own last 12 weeks of workload. Weekly stroke counts are drawn against that band — below, near, above or well above your norm. It is relative to you, never to other players.
How many sessions does Trends need?
Trends wait until there is something honest to say — the norm band and the weekly view need more than five sessions. The streak chip appears from two consecutive weeks.
What are the radar axes?
Power, control, net, defence and rally — your shape as a player, now versus eight or more weeks ago. The fastest-climbing axis gets called out in plain words.
Will it warn me about overtraining?
No, and that is deliberate. Workload and demand are shown against your own norm and stay descriptive — they are not medical, injury or readiness advice. If something hurts, that is a conversation for a professional.
Free, Plus and the bill.
What exactly is free?
Sport-specific scoring, accepted stroke counts and your five newest sessions are free for padel and tennis. It is a permanent useful mode, not a countdown trial.
What does PlayDNA+ add?
Unlimited history and Trends for both sports, plus Match Profile and Coach where that sport's evidence is qualified. Plus does not unlock unqualified tennis classification or coaching.
How do I restore a purchase on a new iPhone?
Install PlayDNA, sign in with the same Apple Account and tap Restore Purchases in Settings. If nothing shows up, check that the subscription is active under Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
How do I cancel?
On your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → PlayDNA+. Billing is handled entirely by Apple; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and your match history stays on your phone.
I was charged twice — or I want a refund. Who do I ask?
Apple, always. PlayDNA never sees your payment details. Start at reportaproblem.apple.com, and send us a note too — we will help you word it.
